A story from the creative mind of Jemarcus Kilgore, "Darren and Anissa" is a Romantic Comedy with heavy inspiration from Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet. In most forms of media, Black Cowboys are typically depicted in period piece films. With our film, we get to see modern Black Cowboys and the deep-seated culture of the South. One of our favorite things about this piece is that it's not rooted in black trauma. Our characters are black by circumstance, not because of their past or trauma. Ranchers across the world pride themselves on their legacy, the wealth and beauty of their land, and their deep family ties. These deep roots are sown into the framework of the Bennett and Callaway families as well as the script itself. "Darren and Anissa" is fun, deep, and filled with Southern charm. It gives us a deeper look into Black Cowboy culture that the world is currently falling in love with all over again.
